Cracks in the saw blade

Cracks in the saw blade

Occasionally, there may be some cracking in the tooth gullet/base. This phenomenon mainly occurs with cut-off saws in set-tooth execution. Repair of the crack is not possible; the saw blade has to be replaced.

To prevent cracks in the saw blade with highest possible probability we recommend the following:

  • Replacement of the cut-off saw in set-tooth execution with a TKM Spring-Tooth-Saw. The base body is more flexible with a higher toughness.
  • If you want to stay with the set-tooth execution, the sharpness parameters such as grinding wheel, positioning and/or levelling of the tooth shape need to be checked. It is essential to observe a homogenous shape of the tooth as well as a clean grinded tooth base.
  • Adherence of the regrinding intervals of the straight-set tooth design to avoid an overload of the saw with blunt teeth.
  • During the process of regrinding the straight-set chop saws need to be newly restricted; one should also watch out for a proper set, which should be located in the top third of the tooth (not too much, not too deep).
