Trouble Shooting in gravure print

Edge brak-outs (gravure print)

In this article we explain how edge break-outs occure in garvure print and how to avoid them.

Edge break-outs (gravure print)

Damage to the doctor blade is usually caused by poorly finished or damaged impression cylinder edges. While soft wear on the doctor blade bevel is normal, edge break-outs describe severe damage (as shown in the picture). This damage can lead to further problems such as ink splashes.

Solutions to edge break-outs:

  • Check the cylinder edges for damage and re-chrome the cylinders
  • Check the transport, storage and installation, whether poor handling will cause damage.
  • In pre-press, make sure that the cylinder edges are soft and slightly bevelled during copper-plating and chrome-plating.

TKM recommends TKM combination squeegee, designed for this purpose and TKM Ceraprint Stabil
