Rough Surface

Rough Surface

The stem’s cutting surface is in general rougher during the use of a gang saw, than a circular saw. Under certain circumstances, cutting with the gang saw can lead to a rougher surface of the stem, which might be too rough to ensure economic further processing.

Possible causes:

The gang saw is set unevenly
  • Dismantlement and repair (re-set of teeth)
The gang saw has an irregular side-clearance of stellite teeth
  • Dismantlement and repair (re-sharpening a/o new stellite tips)
The gang saw is dull
  • Re-sharpening of the gang saw
Wood is too wet or too dry and tends to a rougher surface
  • Sawmill needs to check and adjust the preparation of the wood
